The Amazing Outdoors Company Patagonia

When you think of corporations, usually the last thing that comes to mind is the word responsibility. Thats why the company Patagonia is such a breath of fresh air. The company that eventually became Patagonia was started in 1965 as a team of people dedicated to improving all facets of mountain climbing tools. Today, Patagonia has grown to a larger company, but one which is, as I said, surprisingly responsible. Dont believe me? Read on then.

With its Common Threads Initiative, Patagonia at the same time stands by the initial quality of the products they make and pledge themselves to help the environment. This initiative is simple, but revolutionary. Patagonia doesnt want to see their products get tossed before their usefulness ends, or even ever. So they pledge to reuse any materials off of an old item of Patagonia clothing, recycle fabrics and accessories, and repair anything possible (and for only a minimal fee). You can participate, in a way, in this initiative, by buying still quality Patagonia items used. But the last r in this initiative is truly surprising. With the reduce part of the initiative, Patagonia asks their customers not to buy anything from them which they wont need or use. Finally, a company that cares about something more than the financial bottom line!

But Patagonia knows that to protect the environment, you have to do things right from the get go. To this end, Patagonia uses recycled polyester in many of their wares and organic cotton, so you can feel good about what you buy from this company.

Lastly, Patagonia, unlike most sporting good companies, goes out of their way to promote sports which are what I like to call silent winners for the environment. Forget jet skiing, off-roading with a dirt bike, and other sports which guzzle gas and pollute the environment. For silent winners, think of skiing, surfing, trail running, and how the company Patagonia began, mountain climbing. These are sports which may not get as much acclaim, but give solid exercise, promote a true love of the outdoors, and have minimal impact to the environment. This is just one area in which the company Patagonia shines.
