silk 199x300Packing for a trip, especially if it is long or to another country, is a stressful thing for many people. They worry that if they leave something out, that will ensure that they need it on their trip. Or, if they pack everything they only might need, theyll end up lugging half a dozen suitcases for their travels. Is there a way to cut down on the clutter of packing without leaving important clothing behind? Sure it is! In this article, well examine some smart ways to focus on the fabrics of your clothing and have everything you need on a trip.

First off, unless youre going to a desert, plan ahead for wet weather. Umbrellas can be heavy and bulky in your suitcase and useless if there is lightning in the area. Choose a rain poncho or jacket with waterproof coating (or waterproof coat, if your destination is a cold one) instead. Skipping this important fabric will mean that if you get caught in the rain, you could be setting yourself up for sickness and more hassle when it comes to washing and drying your clothes.

Speaking of laundering clothes, in many places, its expensive or a great ordeal to have someone else wash your clothes while travelling. Examples of this may be while camping or staying in a foreign country, but not in fancy hotels. Unless you plan on looking like a slob for your whole trip, I recommend getting wrinkle-free fabrics, such as knit, wool, silk, polyester, and microfiber. Having wrinkle-free or wrinkle-resistant fabrics will allow you to wash and dry your clothes easier and give you the opportunity to pull things out of your suitcase without needing to iron every item.

But the fabric factors that will make or break your trip more than anything are those that deal with cold or warm weather. This is especially true for when youre taking trips because there are often times that you are on a tour or some other engagement that prevent you from going back to your hotel to change. It is positively vital that you have clothing that is appropriate to the temperature of where you are travelling. This is such an important topic that I will cover it fully in another post.
