Important Accessories for Travel Clothing

clothesline 300x199If you find yourself in a country or perhaps a remote location closer to home, youll quickly find that washing your clothes yourself, by hand, can be a real chore. Take it from someone who washed her* own clothing in a sink for a month while abroad: there are some tools that will make your life better with them and miserable without. To make sure that you have all that you need for your big adventure, read on.

Detergent is a must, obviously. And, unfortunately, in most situations, youll find that bringing along your large jug of detergent just isnt possible. Instead, youll probably have to do some hunting. The easiest solution for your detergent conundrum is to go to a local big box or drug store and purchase a tiny bottle or two of super concentrated detergent. Alternatively, if this is the type of detergent you ordinarily buy, you can pour a bit into refillable, tightly sealing travel bottles.

Once you handwash your clothes in a sink or tub, youll need to have some way of getting them dry. Bringing only clothes which are quick dry or wicking helps them dry faster for this job. While the clothes dry, youll need to have a way of hanging them. While you could bring a bunch of hangers or hope that your hotel has some for you, I recommend most highly bringing along a travel clothesline. This compact travel accessory can be strung either with suction cups, clips, or a loop which attaches to doorknobs, depending on the style of travel clothesline.

Finally, if youre travelling somewhere in which you will need to look presentable while wearing formal, wrinkle-prone clothing, allow me to recommend getting a travel-sized clothing steamer. Depending on the features, your steamer can help you finish the creases in your pants, brush away lint, and get out stubborn wrinkles so that you look your best, even though youre away from home.

Even though travelling without access to convenient dry cleaning and washing machines can be a trial, you can still look good and wear your clothes well if you have the right tools. I encourage you to make sure you have all you need before you set out on your trip.
